Herman Ledwell
Herman Ledwell was my father, Warren Ledwell older brother. On Sunday, June 30th, 2019, after the closing of our family reunion, I had an opportunity to have breakfast with my uncle son, Clyde Ledwell. We talked about our reflections on his father.
Some of my best memories of Uncle Herman was the watermelons he grew. He would allow us to eat just the center out of the melon and discard the remainder since he had so many.
Now on a serious note, Uncle Herman was not to be taken for granted. I believe both Clyde and I agreed that we both were a little afraid of him. He was over 6 feet tall and had a demanding voice. You just knew to behave in his presence. His wife, aunt Lucille, was just the opposite of her husband. She was this clam individual that you would fall in love with instantly.
As I grew into adulthood and would come home for the family reunions, I could see the changes in him. I watched him with his grandchildren and saw how he allowed them to get in his lap with amazement. I would have never thought of getting in Uncle Herman's lap. I have beautiful memories of time spent with him and aunt Lucille.
Since Uncle Heman had ten children, I encourage his grandchildren to add to this history. I am sure there are stories that you could share about this wonderful uncle of mine.
