Welcome to the 2019 Reunion
I have been asked to act as the Ledwell family historian and share information with you that I gained from members of the Ledwell family. Being the youngest of Warren Ledwell’s children and having been raised on the original homestead, there are several things I would like to share. Family as you read these blogs, remember these are stories that were shared with me from family members. If I am incorrect in some aspect of these blogs, please update me with corrections.
I would like to start with the beginning of the Ledwell family reunions that began 38 years ago. I was informed by our own Aunt Annie Spinks that the first was held at her home in Greensboro, North Carolina. With the help of her daughter Phyllis, the first reunion book was created. This event meant so much to her that she insisted that it be continued at our original church. I remember her telling me that we could not continue to have it at her house due to limited parking. That was the beginning of our reunion as most of us know it today.
Well, there were Ledwell reunions or shall I say birthday celebrations as far back as 1954. These were held in celebration of our ancestor or better known as our Grandfather Oscar Ledwell. This was a yearly gathering in the front yard of the old home place. Family members would bring dishes to be served outside with granddaddy at the head of the table. I have pictures of those reunions that I will gladly share with family members. I am sure when you look at the picture you will recognize some of your loved ones.
As I continue with this blog, please share information with me that you feel other family members would appreciate.
Thanks,
Jane, The historian
